I like to listen. To people chatting in public. To podcasts about creative people. To whatever my friends have to say on Twitter. Listening is where I start when I need to tell a story.
Once I know what people want to read and how they prefer to read it, that’s when I begin writing. I’ve been told I have a friendly voice; the kind that feels like an old friend talking to you through the page. I think that’s because, somewhere along the way, I learned to write how people talk. Maybe it’s all that listening I tend to do.
